I am an average, middle-aged, American woman, mother of four children, married for 23 years. I’m a small business owner and a helicopter pilot. I fill my days with as much fun and love I can manage, and I am always looking for a good adventure. My views of life are pretty simple, as I like to stay neutral and open to new ideas. I have a curious nature and love to question the meaning and purpose of life. I can say, for the most part, my life has been a happy existence filled with love, family, travel and learning. This past year has been a tornado of an experience. My entire life has shifted from carefree, easy living to one of torment, grief, loss, depression, extreme inquiry and solitude. I have had to dig deeper than I ever knew possible to meet a part of myself I didn’t know existed. I learned how to surrender to life’s torturous events and to feel my way to a new and profound place of wonder. What I am left with is an entirely new perspective and a beautiful message. It is one of love and connection from the world beyond. In my darkest hour of excruciating pain, I learned there is so much more to our existence than what we see and feel in real time. Our loved ones never really leave us, and they want us to live the most meaningful, glorious lives possible. They experience through us and with us in every moment. We are never alone. I believe this is why they come through—to help us come to grips with our loss and emotion knowing they are still here. I’m writing this story simply because I have to. This need is so strong in me, I am risking my outward appearance, criticism and skepticism to bring it to you. I simply feel deeply in my heart that if you are reading this story, then there is a reason for it. I hope to be able to convey my message in a way that will bring greater awareness and purpose to your life. Our experiences can expand us if we allow them. The words you are about to read are the tiny little pieces of my shattered heart mending their way back to wholeness. I know at some point, we all go through heartbreak and loss and grief and sadness. Death is part of life. I just want you to know you don’t have to do it alone. You are not alone. Please know, I am here for you. As Juliana wrote in the lyrics of her song SMILE, “life is worth it and you are so precious to me.” With all the love in my heart I give you, ~SUNN
