Bob Reece specialized for forty years in diagnosis of child abuse cases. He edited nine textbooks, published many journal articles, twenty-seven book chapters and was Executive Editor of The Quarterly Update, a child abuse review journal, for 23 years. Upon retirement he used his writing skills to craft novels based on experiences from his medical career. In To Tell The Truth, a young babysitter is charged with murder of an infant. From the infant’s sudden collapse through courtroom drama the reader is transported to a world that highlights dueling medical experts, some of whom are far from expert, in an effort to sway jurors. In his second novel – Double Blind Double Cross –trauma surgeon Dr.Tom Barrett returns from military duty stricken with PTSD. He enters a clinical trial of a new drug for PTSD victims. But something goes wrong and patients' symptoms return in full force. Tom and two fellow patients immerse themselves in a high stakes investigation into the drug's failure that reveals a shocking answer. In Strong Medicine, a story that could have been pulled from today’s headlines, Dr. Tom Barrett, discovers the rules set by the pharmaceutical industry are dangerously effective: skyrocketing prices, misleading advertising, manipulation of health care professionals, rigged research, and the suppression of competition. Barrett forms PharmaTruth to shine a light on misbehavior in the drug industry. PharmaTruth recruits real-life patients struggling to get the medicines they depend on to lead the fight against big Pharma. In The Lewellyns from Vincennes, Reece pivots from medical content to a story of a twentieth century family whose lives are buffeted by personal losses, two world wars, the Great Depression, family tragedies and triumphs and the constant outside drumbeat of world events. Jack, the patriarch, and his wife Sarah, rear three children whose destinies are shaped by Jack’s own failed aspirations and Sarah’s steady determination and faith. Based on a true story, its tapestry is woven through with invention of scenes and fictionalized dialogue. It is ultimately a story of redemption and resilience.
