Rick Herrera is an award-winning author and a Professor in the Department of National Security and Strategy, US Army War College. A specialist in eighteenth and nineteenth-century American military history, Herrera is a recipient of the Society for Military History's Moncado Prize, two Distinguished Writing Awards from the Army Historical Foundation, and numerous research grants and fellowships. He is now editing a collection of letters tentatively titled "A Most Uncommon Soldier: The Life, Letters, and Journal of Edward Ashley Bowen Phelps, 1814-1893," to be published by the University Press of Kansas.
