Randall Alifano has a Ph.D. in clinical psychology and is an Ordained Minister with over 40 years of integrating psychology and spirituality in his private practice. He has worked with a diverse group of people at various stages of their lives, listening to their dreams and aspirations, their traumas and confusions, and their desire to live life more attuned to their own inner wisdom. And he has loved doing it his entire career. Over the decades, he has studied numerous theories and methodologies—both psychological and spiritual—and they have all filtered down to inform who he is and how he works. Dr. Alifano worked in various agencies where he counseled battered women, ran groups for violent men, helped in a residential care facility for the elderly, guided mistreated children in a residential care home, and designed a domestic violence program at the Center for Special Problems. Dr. Alifano was apprenticed by Robert Hall and Will Schutz, assisting them in leading Encounter Groups and Gestalt Therapy at Esalen Institute, and he co-led a year-long seminar on Intuitive Listening with Dr. Kim Chernin. Dr. Alifano has been featured on Maryanne Live, a podcast investigating relationships and what makes them thrive, and on Healers on Healing, a podcast focusing on cutting-edge therapy and consciousness. Dr. Alifano draws on his wealth of experience to provide practical guidance on how to improve our ability to listen with presence, empathy, and curiosity, not only with others but also with ourselves. He has seen firsthand the transformative power of being heard, and he offers concrete examples of how Listening in the Raw can help deepen our relationships, enhance our personal growth, and end our accepted state of isolation. Beyond his professional work, Dr. Alifano spent seven years in an ongoing monthly medicine journey group. He has also been meditating since he was 16 years old. Dr. Alifano is a drummer, percussionist, and co-founder of the musical collective, Tandamazi, inspiring dancers of all ages to listen to the beat of the drum and follow their feet on a rhythmic dancing path. On his days off he can be seen hiking the trails of Mt. Tam with his dog, Tuccio, and his beloved, Davida, traveling far and wide with his camera, cooking large pots of his grandma’s famous Bolognese sauce and creating the best lasagna in the universe.
