Phillip B Williams, born in Chicago, is a poet, novelist, and educator. His poetry collections have won awards, including a Lambda Literary Award for »Thief in the Interior« [2017] and an American Book Award for »Mutiny« [2022], which was also a finalist for the PEN/Voelker Award for Poetry. »Ours« is his first novel, continuing to thematize the stories, myths, and communities of a too often erased black and queer world present in his work. Honors for »Ours« include 2025 – James Tait Black Prize in Fiction (finalist), 2025 – VCU Cabell First Novelist Award (shortlist), and the Prix du Premier Roman Étranger (finalist) for the French translation with Charles Recoursé. Williams is a professor of creative writing at Rice University and founding faculty at Randolph College low-res MFA in creative writing.
