Phil Mills, Jr. is a longtime and active member of the Western Writers of America (WWA). He currently serves as WWA President. He is also a member of the Oregon-California Trails Association (OCTA), Montana Historical Society, and is a lifetime member of the Custer Battlefield Historical and Museum Association (CBHMA). In 2010, he was a WWA Spur Award Finalist winner for Best Western Audiobook for his novel, "Where a Good Wind Blows". His second historical novel in his "Good Wind Western Series" entitled "Where the Wildflowers Dance" was recently published and is now available. His three illustrated children's books, "Bandit the Cow Dog", "Scooter, the Cow Dog" and "Mud Between My Toes" have all received critical acclaim. His children's book "Bandit the Cow Dog" received a 2021 WWA Spur Finalist Award for Best Children's Book and also a 2021 Will Rogers Gold Medallion for Best Illustrated Children's book. Mills has joined with three other award-winning authors in the anthology "Perilous Frontier" where his short story "Cold the Bitter Heart" is receiving critical acclaim. His experiences includes being a small town newspaper editor, farm magazine editor, and work with two major advertising/public relations agencies. In 2016, he attended the Chad Nicholson Rodeo Announcer Seminar in Fort Worth, Texas. Then he spent the summer announcing rodeos in Bandera, Texas, as well as barrel races in Georgia and Alabama. Today, Phil lives west of Fort Worth, Texas. He can also be found on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
