Phil Circle is a veteran Chicago-based singer-songwriter-guitarist, author, and music coach. His 30 years as an independent musician have made him a strong advocate of the Indie/DIY musician, especially since he was one before the terminology was generally in use. He founded Guilt By Association Records as a brand for his own music in 1994. Since then, he's recorded nine "official" albums of his own music and produced multiple side projects for himself and others. He has now re-branded his label as a co-op, to allow other artists to tap into his resources and experience without being obligated to any sort of contract. With a deep appreciation for what it takes to survive and at the urging of friends and fans, he put his story-telling talents to work and published "The Outback Musician's Survival Guide" in 2017 to critical acclaim. Consistently, his brutal honesty, passion for life and music, and genuine matter-of-fact writer's voice have been cited by reviewers. Additionally, one review referred to "a great sense of hope" and said Circle brought "an important message that everyone should hear." Another said it's "a book the reader travels with" and that it "inspires us to take greater risks." "The Outback" was also awarded the Honorable Mention for the 2018 Readers' Favorite Book Awards, in the Nonfiction/Music/Entertainment category. "The Outback Musician's Survival Guide" is not a how-to book. It's a story of what happened when one young musician dared to try and make it on his own. It's a story of one man's life so far, and how he has survived, often in spite of himself, as an independent artist. It is, as another review said, "a celebration of what it means to be human." Chicago Music Guide said it "reads like a Jack Kerouac or Hunter S. Thompson novel, full of grit and realism, written in the fast pace of life." Phil Circle continues to write, record, perform, and teach music from his home in Chicago. He can be found on most social media and through his main page. His music is also on Amazon.
