Penny Chrimes writes magical adventure stories for children, set on the dark streets of Dickensian London. In her debut novel, Tiger Heart, the heroine - Fly - leads a gang of street kids - the 'gutterlings' - in their adventures around the city. Tiger Heart begins when Fly decides to escape her job as a chimney sweep and ends up falling into a tiger's cage. With the help of her gang, she vows to free the tiger, despite the dangerous forces working against them. The Dragon and her Boy is a fiery adventure about the last living dragon under London (who loves crumpets) and a gutterling called Stick. In order to protect the dragon and rescue his oldest friends, Stick had to confront the terrors of his childhood. Penny loves spending time exploring the streets of London, treading the same paths as the gutterlings, and finding their magical stories hidden in the stones of the city. She spent most of her career as a journalist, working in print and television news, but now writes full time from her home in South London with the help of two cats, Betsy and Bonnie.
