Dr. Patrick Markey is a Professor of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Villanova University, the Director of the Interpersonal Research Group, and a former President of the Society for Interpersonal Theory and Research. Dr. Markey received his doctorate from the University of California (Riverside) in social and personality psychology, with a focus on behavioral statistics. Since receiving his degree, he has published over eighty book chapters and journal articles in peer-reviewed journals, and he has made hundreds of presentations at universities and at national and international scientific conferences. His areas of research focus on how behavioral tendencies develop and are expressed within a social environment and range from fairly mundane interpersonal behaviors (e.g., acting warmly during an interaction) to behaviors are real-life importance (e.g., aggression, homicide, 911 calls, divorce). His research has garnered widespread media attention and has been featured in the New York Times, Washington Post, and The Atlantic, and on CNN, NPR, BBC, PBS, and NBC.
