Pat (Murphy) McVey, a Marriage and Family Therapist and educator for 25 years, spent her Professional Career in schools - pre-school through University. This book reflects what she has learned about how families, schools and communities impact the health and development of children. Pat worked as a marriage counselor at Rutgers University where she developed a 28- hour workshop she named the Self in Relationships. The fact that over 7000 students choose to attend indicates the impact in their intimate relationship skills. Earlier she designed and directed a school, within a public school, for pre-school children whose older siblings were having major problems in school. She included their school aged siblings in the summer school each year. By hiring many of their mothers, all of their children were more successful in school. Each year many of their mothers were hired as aids. There were 50 preschoolers and 250 during the summers. Later in a different school she designed The Little Buddy Program fir children at risk. This also made a significant difference and doesn't involve any cost. it could be done by all schools everywhere to support children at risk. McVey was a graduate of Kansas State College, received her Masters from Columbia University, and completed course work towards a Doctorate at Rutgers University.
