I am the lead pastor of Grace Community Church in Fulton, Maryland, a multi-ethnic church that is learning what it means to be the diverse people of God in both attendance and ethos. As the son of Korean immigrants, my journey is best described as that of learning to navigate between different worlds: ethnically, culturally, and even spiritually. It's no surprise, then, that part of my calling is to be a bridge-builder: between races and generations. I'm often invited to speak to congregations about the beauty of following Jesus, or invited to sit down over coffee to share the difficulties of following Jesus. Most of my sermon illustrations come from my loves: my five children, Calvin, Noah, Ben, Beatrice, and Owen; my wife, Sarah; or my favorite activity of fly fishing (yes - I have baptized people wearing my waders), golfing, or reading. I love to eat good food, tell a good story, and convince people to take the next step and see what might happen. Above all, I spend most of my time and energy trying to make the most generous assumptions I can, loving Jesus a little better, and living with wisdom and courage in a world that can be terrifying.
