MaryAnn Easley is an award-winning author and educator. She teaches writing to children and adults, gives assemblies and writing workshops in schools, is a peer writing coach, and an independent publisher. She believes writing can change a life and even save a life, and she often turns personal experiences into story. "Each one of us is the hero of our own story, and we live dozens of stories every day," she says. "We can relive an experience, revise it, rewrite it, and, in a sense, reinvent ourselves." She taught Inuit children in three different Arctic villages, fished commercially for salmon while living aboard a 55' sailing schooner, facilitated a poet's society for middle school USMC students, and tutored literature, philosophy and writing to foreign students. She is the recipient of the Award of Excellence from the San Diego Reading Association and Teacher of the Year at her school site three times. Her first YA novel "I Am the Ice Worm" is a Junior Library Guild Selection and an ALA Quick Picks. Her other books include: "Belly Up," "A Few Screws Loose," "Dog Woman," "Looking Out for Lindy," "Alone in the Ice World," "Warrior's Daughter," "Finding Jade Mountain," "Knuckle Down," a picture book about the Persian new year titled, "The Seventh 'S' of Spring," and "Ethan Barrett: Kid-Kart Champion," a book for kids interested in go-kart racing and their families. A member of the Society of Children's Bookwriters & Illustrators, she attends book fairs and festivals and has appeared on radio and television in connection with her work.
