After twenty-seven years as a criminal and civil trial lawyer in state and federal courts, Mary Kane knows what it is to try to convince an unsympathetic jury, appeal to a judge who has heard it all, and seek justice for the “little guy.” Ms. Kane was the first woman in the country to become a Life Member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. The Trial Lawyers for Public Justice, Washington D.C., named her a co-recipient of the Trial Lawyer of the Year Award in 1993 for her role in an environmental class action trial. During the Oklahoma bombing trial of Timothy McVeigh, Ms. Kane provided commentary on national television for MSNBC and Tribune Broadcasting and for National Public Radio. Ms. Kane has accepted many challenging cases. In 1987, she was co-counsel representing Bruce Pierce, a member of the white supremacist group known as "The Order", which was perhaps the most challenging of all. Mr. Pierce was indicted in federal court in the shooting death of Denver radio talk show host Alan Berg. Ms. Kane assisted in the defense of Rockwell International, a defense contractor operating a nuclear weapons plant in Boulder, Colorado, for two years during a federal environmental crimes investigation and prosecution. Ms. Kane has been published nationally and has lectured nationally on trial tactics. Repeatedly, she was invited to return as a faculty member for the Florida Defense College, where she conducted trial skills and tactics workshops for lawyers.
