About Mary Ellen Lucas
Mary Ellen Lucas is an Interfaith / Interspiritual minister and considers her first children’s book as a ‘voice’ in the world to promote peace and tolerance for all.
It took three years for her to write her little goose book. She relished crafting the fun word play to describe the antics of the geese along with the meaningful themes afloat in the currents of Little Puddle Pond. Throughout the book's pages, she invoked the spirit of Mr. Rogers as a reminder of his message that we are all neighbors and ought to be kind to one another.
Her aspiration as a writer is to be succinct and clear. Admittedly, she confesses to a rather roundabout style of writing. She teeters on the edge of pickiness when it comes to word choice but if she is feeling kindly towards herself, she would say she is precise about her word selection. A million words must converge on paper first before her inner ruthless editor takes over. If you surmise that her writing process is laborious and not at all easy, you would be correct. Yet, she loves to write!
Right now, she is happily immersed writing a million words for a series of goose books at her home in Northeast Ohio. The geese, her backyard neighbors, and her grandchildren provide plenty of inspiration. Her future books will be written in a similar style with silly goose playfulness and deep dives into important topics.
