Peter Rutherford had just wanted to go for a walk and get to sleep. Instead, he found himself dragged into a war which had been raging for millennia, in which all he could hope to do was maintain the status uqo. Until, that is, he conceived of a way to end the war, once and for all.

The constellation Maaren has vanished from the sky. Twelve great birds, the fabled Flight of Maar, are devouring the world. The only way to stop them is in the Forbidden City of the Yester. The journey is long and fraught with perils, with different countries being as completely different worlds.
