Songwriter, author, inventor, arts advocate, and pastor—Manuel Luz is passionate about worship, coffee, the Las Vegas Raiders, and the intersections of faith and the arts. Manuel has recently released a second edition of his father's memoirs, Five Dollars in Change, which chronicles the life of a first-generation Filipino American searching for the American dream. This release, commemorating the 20 year anniversary of his father's death, includes extensive commentary to help contextualize the story for today's generations. Manuel has two published books. Honest Worship: From False Self to True Praise (InterVarsity Press 2018), addresses the critical connection between spiritual formation and worship—how our soul is formed and how that formation affects our expression of worship. His previous book, Imagine That: Discovering Your Unique Role as a Christian Artist (Moody Publishers 2009) is a practical and personal theology of the arts, and provides a Christian perspective on being an artist of faith. Besides having been a pastor for over 30 years, Manuel is a creative. He's released multiple albums of original music, is an active blogger, and is also the co-inventor of the patented musical instrument, the WalkaBout Drum, a strap-worn fully-amplified hand drum which won Best-In-Show at the world-renowned NAMM Show.
