The author was born in Hamburg, spent his childhood and early youth in Johannesburg, graduated from high school in Münster and then studied literature, more precisely English and German studies in Heidelberg (degree: M.A. phil.), while also studying philosophy and medieval and modern history at the Ruprecht Karls University. Depending on the situation, he works as a translator, lecturer and freelance artist. His most notable publications include: Sandown, an account of growing up in Johannesburg. The book is available both in German and, as a modified version, in English.
