Louise Seirmarco-Yale has been an artist, teacher, and influencer in the visual arts for more than six decades. With a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art and a minor in teaching, her background eventually included teaching every level of student the various art techniques, as well as art theory, art criticism, and art appreciation. After getting a Master of Fine Arts in Art History with a minor in higher education, Seirmarco-Yale went on to teach in a community college, teaching design and the history of the world’s art. That background led her to the administration of the Docent Program at the Toledo Museum of Art. Over a period of ten years, thirty years ago, the author sold over a thousand paintings from her studio in Reston, VA. Themed exhibits every six months led her to a local, national, and international reputation. Her painting studio remains active today as good painting ideas never stop. When Picasso was asked which was his favorite painting, he is said to have replied “the next one!” That is how Louise feels about being an artist. It is not like a garden where you can think, “I guess I won’t put one in this year!” It is a lifetime commitment she made many years ago. Her inventory at this writing is well into the 3000s with more on the way. The enormous engagement of the public in Louise’s lectures has led to her observations about how the public views art. It became obvious that readers needed permission to trust their own judgment. Thus, the book Art, You Be the Judge. The book contains down-to-earth practical exercises to restore the reader’s confidence when it comes to art. These time-tested, well-worn, belief-changing, thought-play exercises can transform the reader’s view of their own ability to make and consume art again. The objective is to return to the joy art can bring to daily life, enriching ordinary people and society.
