I'm from the 1942 vintage and could be a grandmother, but instead I preferred the freedom of being single. Taught school, (middle) and that taught me not to have kids. Left teaching after someone brilliantly decided that the dress code should be dropped, kids don't need to be disciplined and respect for one another is archaic. (I'm sure a Pulitzer will be given to someone who discovers that education to be successful does include an element of discipline etc...) Anyway, I loved working with my hands and went into the trades, becoming the first woman to be licensed in electrical contracting in Ohio.
I retired from contracting in 2003 and started up a repair shop to keep busy. Well, we've almost had eleven thousand customers in less than ten years.
Oh, my book. I started writing this story when I was teaching and then put it aside when I went into contracting. Three years ago, a dear friend wanted to know what else I did beside work and play golf and I mentioned my story. They thought I should finish it. Now I'm wondering if I should write another.
