Lori is a native Californian but she loves to travel and sketch the world. She grew up in Redondo Beach where she was encouraged to be creative by her mom, "Snip", the fashion designer. Both of her older sisters are also artists. The whole neighborhood would come over and Snip would set up art school in the garage and they would have art shows in the backyard. Lori has been teaching art since 1996 and she is currently teaching at the Athenaeum in La Jolla and Barrio Logan, CA; and at UCSD extension. She graduated with honors from Art Center College of Design with a BFA in Illustration, which she put to good use. She has illustrated 10 books to date. Her first book was "Different Just Like Me", which she wrote and illustrated. She even got to go to Chicago and meet Oprah with that book! The book went on to receive many awards and honors. For more inside scoop on the book, and for games and hidden pictures go to: www.differentjustlikeme.com She is active in the local art community. She's a past president of the Society of Illustrators San Diego. She's also a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. One of her favorite things to do is to go sketch with the San Diego SketchCrawl group that meets in different locations. They draw and laugh and just have fun sharing the creative process. She also just returned from a trip to the South of France where she brought students to sketch and paint in the farmer's markets and on the streets. She will be taking another group to Amsterdam in May.
