I am a life-long Chicago native. As a child, I spent many of my "growing up" years working at Deno's Jewelry Store which was owned by my grandparents and also is a major setting in my memoir, My Hero, My Ding. I went to Bishop Noll Institute in Hammond, IN for high school and graduated from Purdue University earning a Bachelor of Arts degree. After college, I taught ten years in the Archdiocese of Chicago. Since then, I have been teaching in the Chicago Public School system continuing to inspire the youth in my classroom. I have always had a love of reading and that fostered my interest in writing. My grandfather was the perfect inspiration to fulfill a dream of writing a book! Since then, the writing has continued. I have two children's books on the market as well. The Moose at the Manger is a children's Christmas book about Muse the Moose's magical journey back to that very first Christmas morning. Muse is in awe at seeing Jesus in the manger and is immediately surrounded by love. It is a fun story that keeps Christ is Christmas and shows the importance of a loving family. Mark the Missing Moose is also a children's book. It was inspired by a parent of a former student. After her stepson committed suicide, she reached out to me to write a story about a child who loses something very important and has to cope with that loss. The hope for Mark the Missing Moose is for children to learn how to open up and speak to others about how they feel and what they are thinking. In this digital world, kids are "well-connected" but often are not saying much to one another. Follow Jimmy in Mark the Missing Moose to see how opening up and letting others in really helps him out!
