Born and raised in Southern California, she has worked hard to complete her B.S. and a Masters in Health Care Administration (MHA). Growing up as an abused child, she carried these emotional, psychological, and physical injuries into adulthood. She believes that much of the abuse she received as a child reflected the common dysfunctions that have persisted for African American children In addition, Laurie is hoping that writing this book will help her find her oldest sister who left home and risked her relationship with the family, to stop her own physical abuse at the age of twelve. Laurie has worked very hard to overcome such trials and move on. It was God who got her through her childhood, and the rough patches of her life, through today. She attributes her ability to move on, regardless of these trials, through God guiding her and leading her in uncertain times, as well as the difficult times we are living in.
