Born and raised in Albuquerque, Kyle Burrell-Cowan (AKA Kyle T. Cowan) is a gay J.D. Candidate, Actor, and Writer. Having completed his coursework at the University of Denver’s Sturm College of Law, Burrell-Cowan has a broad range of legal interests, including criminal law, litigation, administrative law, family law, and intellectual property. As a Summer ’23 Legal Intern practicing under the Student Practice Act in Arapahoe County Court, Burrell-Cowan had the opportunity to gain docket and trial experience. Burrell-Cowan worked together with the County Court Lead Deputy District Attorney to receive a guilty verdict on a seemingly un-winnable trial utilizing pure advocacy, testimonial evidence from a police officer, and a Google Map. While at District 18, Burrell-Cowan worked with Judge Hernandez to advocate for changing the Juror Forms to contain more progressive gender identifying language. Burrell-Cowan has also served as a Legal Intern at Cocona Labs Inc. in Summer and Fall of ’22, where he gained experience in corporate law, contracts, negotiation, intellectual property, and licensing. Burrell-Cowan is positive that his passion for helping others and changing the country will land him on the right path. He looks forward to finishing off his law school experience with an Externship at the Rocky Mountain Veterans Advocacy Project. As an actor, Cowan has appeared in The Short History Of The Long Road, Better Call Saul, Preacher, War On Everyone, Manhattan, Camouflage, and Odd Thomas. As a screenwriter, Cowan has 17 Coverfly Accolades, has placed as a Finalist in numerous competitions, and his TV Pilot Don’t Say Gay! received a Top 1% Accolade of projects on Coverfly. Cowan is also recognized for Writing, Directing, Producing, Editing, and Starring in the indie feature film Camouflage, available via Vimeo and YouTube. As an author, Sunshine is Forever, Cowan’s debut novel, was number one store seller at Barnes and Noble for a number of consecutive weeks in Albuquerque, NM. The audiobook is available on Audible and won an Earphones Award from AudioFile Magazine. After graduating Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Writing and Directing from the University of Colorado, Denver in December 2010, Burrell-Cowan is now a May J.D. ’24 Candidate at University of Denver’s Sturm College of Law.
