I am a writer, a dog lover, a husband, father, and a story-teller. I love twists and turns in a story, not seeing things coming. I've always enjoyed the build-up; I think this is the most important part of the work. The first twitches in reality that don't seem right, something in the room that moves on its own, the barely audible whisper in the wind; these are the elements that get my attention and keep me reading. I also value a story's setting; different times and places are what makes a work interesting and captivating. If you, as an author, are going to take me somewhere, I want you to really take me there. This is what I aim to do with my work. Sense the numb tingling in your nostrils and feel the chill as it grips your bones--it's cold! Or, it's so hot that you wish you could peel your skin off, so hot that you can taste the salt in your own sweat as it forms just above your upper lip. Were you there with me, even just for a second?
