Kevin Osborne was born in 1941 and educated in Brooklyn and New York City. Currently, he lives with his wife, Judy, on a back country road in Connecticut. He started college as an engineering major. But, having a life-long interest in literature and philosophy, he regularly sampled humanities courses as electives at the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, now Polytechnic Institute of New York University. It was here that he discovered a gifted philosophy teacher, Leonard Peikoff, whose passion for the subject of philosophy Osborne found absolutely infectious. Irresistibly drawn to this inspired teacher, who taught many philosophy courses at Polytechnic, a change of major to English (Humanities) followed. This led to graduate school and in 1979 Osborne graduated from the City University of New York with a Ph.D. in Philosophy. His doctoral dissertation, “Aristotle’s Conception of Megalopsychia,” dealt with that giant’s theory of the nature and origin of “greatness of soul.” (This has inspired his most recent works, “Mutekikon” and “The Prometheus Connection.”) Following graduate school, Osborne worked mainly in the field of Quality Engineering. The first half of his career was in the private sector and the second half was in the Department of Defense. As a sideline, he was contributing editor for Freshwater and Marine Aquarium Magazine for several years during the 1980’s and 1990’s. His specialty was planted freshwater aquariums, and he wrote many articles for like-minded aquarium enthusiasts. Kevin Osborne now works as a writer and artist. He is the author-illustrator of the 2010 fable, “Mutekikon,” a picture-storybook on DVD, about man’s indomitable spirit. His 2014 “The Prometheus Connection” is his latest nonfiction book, for which his painting, “The Torch of Reason,” appears on the cover.
