THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR GIFTED CHILDREN HAS JUST ANNOUNCED THAT KENNETH J. SMITH HAS WON THE CURRICULUM DESIGN AWARD FOR 2012. HE HAS BEEN GIVEN THIS HONOR FOR HIS PROJECT "A FREUDIAN ANALYSIS OF LITERATURE," WHICH IS CONTAINED IN THE LANGUAGE ARTS BOOK. After high school, I started with the Chicago Police Department. One thing lead to another and I ended up at Columbia University in New York where I studied with Joanna Williams and Dorothy Strickland. In 1995, I earned my PhD. in cognitive psychology. I have always been fascinated by how gifted children--those who are easily identified and those who are not--think. Since most people in cognitive psychology are not in the classroom and most people in curriculum do not research this cognitive area, my connection to both areas might give me a special insight. I hope this insight gives my books on how gifted students think and what schools should do about it a unique perceptive. Today we reviewed the structure of a one paragraph Essay. remember to keep the topic focused. Ideas such as "they are alike in many ways." are too general. Do not write anything that may sam like another topic and include support from the text as examples as your topic Students then worked on summaries of their group Holmes stories.
