Kay Young teaches English and Comparative Literature at the University of California, Santa Barbara. She is author of *IMAGINING MINDS: The Neuro-Aesthetics of Austen, Eliot, and Hardy* and *ORDINARY PLEASURES: Couples, Conversation, and Comedy*. She is a research fellow at the Institute of Contemporary Psychoanalysis in Los Angeles, co-director of the Literature and Mind Initiative at UCSB, and traveling scholar and lecturer for the Jane Austen Society of North America.
