Raised in the hills and forests of West Virginia, one of my first memories was of writing poetry for my mother. Much later, following a stint in the US Army Special Forces during the late Sixties, I graduated from the UW-Madison in 1972 with a double major in Political Science and History. Then, following a career teaching high school, I returned to my first love, writing. I chose for my first book to write a Western based on the family legends and lore regarding my great-grandfather, See Bird, a Choctaw native. This novel, "The Last Long Drive," is the first of a projected three book set on him. For inspiration, I drew on the writings of men such as Zane Grey and Louis L'Amour. Currently, I live on a ridge facing south just outside Ripon, Wisconsin, with my wife in the home where we raised our two wonderful daughters and a succession of varied pets. By the way, the chaps (batwings) the little cowboy is wearing is one of two pair made by See Bird and given to the boy on his fourth birthday. They are among my most prized possessions.
