Jonathan Ames

Jonathan Ames is the author of the novels I Pass Like Night (1989), The Extra Man (1998), Wake Up, Sir! (2004), You Were Never Really Here (2018); a graphic novel, The Alcoholic (2008, with artwork by Dean Haspiel); and the essay collections What's Not to Love? (2000), My Less Than Secret Life (2002), I Love You More Than You Know (2006), and The Double Life is Twice As Good (2009). He is also the editor of the anthology, Sexual Metamorphosis (2005). In addition to books, he is the creator of two television shows: Bored to Death (HBO, 2009-2011) and Blunt Talk (STARZ, 2015-2016). His novel The Extra Man was adapted as a film, starring Kevin Kline and Paul Dano, and You Were Never Really Here has also been adapted as a film, starring Joaquin Phoenix. Ames is the winner of a Guggenheim Fellowship and at one time had two amateur boxing matches, fighting as "The Herring Wonder."
