When John Lueder was asked as a kid what he wanted to be when he grew up, John remembers his answer being an author, an attorney, or Superman. He always liked creative writing, but when his older brother suggested that maybe being an attorney might not be a bad fallback career, John ultimately decided to pursue law school. After obtaining his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1992 and his law degree from Georgia State University College of Law in 1995, John realized two things. First, he liked being an attorney and was good at it. Second, attorneys write quite a bit, which sharpened his writing skills. As the years passed, he found himself thinking of different stories for a novel, but none of those ideas really took root until he started outlining and writing Daufuskie Island. He wrote most of the novel while on the island. The story is a supernatural adventure that delightfully brings together the interwoven topics of family, love, magic, history, and the charm of an incredible island known as Daufuskie. John is the founding partner of a mid-sized law firm, Lueder, Larkin & Hunter, LLC, with offices in Atlanta, Savannah, and Charleston, S.C. John and his family spend time on Daufuskie Island whenever possible. And one day, he still hopes to be Superman.
