Joan Tollifson is a writer and teacher whose work is about nondual awakening. She has roots in both Buddhism and Advaita but does not identify with any particular tradition. Her bare-bones approach is open, direct, immediate and down-to-earth. Her main teacher was Toni Packer, a former Zen teacher who left the tradition behind to work in a simpler and more open way. Joan has spent time with many other teachers as well (including Advaita satsang teachers, Zen and Tibetan Buddhist teachers, and radical nondualists). In her books and meetings, Joan encourages people to look and listen for themselves and to question all beliefs. Joan has a BA in English from Bard College and an MA in English/Creative Writing from San Francisco State University. Her writing has appeared in numerous publications and anthologies, and she was the recipient of a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. Joan has lived in northern California, rural New York state, Chicago and she currently resides in southern Oregon. Her website is www.joantollifson.com.
