Jim Morris was born into a Navy family and moved more than 30 times before settling in Brownwood, TX. At the age of 15, Morris lived with his grandparents who turned his early life of physical and verbal abuse around with love, attention and valuable life lessons. They became his first dream makers. Born with an insatiable drive for excellence in sports, he was drafted after high school into minor league baseball but never made it out of low “A” ball. After five years of injuries he left minor league baseball and finished college leading the country in punting and kicking. Determined to use his life experiences to help young people, he earned a degree and began teaching and coaching in west Texas. Enter Big Lake, Texas and the Reagan County Owls who challenged Morris to follow his own dreams by trying out for an MLB team. If they won the district championship in baseball he would try out. They won; Morris tried out and learned he was throwing 98 mph. At the age of 35, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays signed him and he made his major league debut just three months later. Disney made the movie, The Rookie. The hardcover, The Oldest Rookie, was written followed by the paperback, The Rookie. Since 2002, Jim Morris has inspired audiences around the world with his incredible life story. His successes and failures have made him a lovable storyteller who continues to overcome adversity. Remember who you are and never give up!
