Jill S. Tietjen grew up in Hampton, Virginia where her father worked as an engineer at the NASA - Langley Research Center (the setting of the book and movie Hidden Figures). After graduating with an engineering degree from the University of Virginia, she began her forty plus year career in the electric utility industry at Duke Power Company in Charlotte, North Carolina. After obtaining her MBA from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, she moved to Denver, Colorado. Tietjen's first book, Keys to Engineering Success, was published in 2001. As she continued her engineering career, she began to research women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics - nominating them for local, professional and national awards - and writing about them. This led to her books in the Setting the Record Straight series and then to the award-winning and bestselling Her Story: A Timeline of the Women Who Changed America. In 2010, Tietjen was inducted into the Colorado Women's Hall of Fame. In 2019, her bestselling and award-winning Hollywood: Her Story, An Illustrated History of Women and the Movies was released and she was inducted into the Colorado Author's Hall of Fame.
