Jamie Scully's interests span multiple genres, including fantasy, horror, science fiction, and general fiction. He strives to build compelling characters and follow them through existential, epic struggles. He enjoys taking risks in his approach to story, prose, and style. Scully grew up in Lincolnshire IL, a northern suburb of Chicago. He graduated from the University of Southern California and worked in film before returning to Chicago. He completed his first novel, The Music of Erica Zann, in 2024. It's a modern reimagining of the 1921 H.P. Lovecraft short story, The Music of Erich Zann. It blends intense, dark, psychological terror with humorous and heartfelt characterization. Scully's favorite novel is A Wizard of Earthsea, by Ursula K. Le Guin. The prose is poetic and tight, and the story has an eternal, mythic quality. Le Guin's The dispossessed, The Lathe of Heaven, and her book on writing, Steering the Craft, are other favorites. Scully also loves the writing of Stephen King, Shirley Jackson, Dan Simmons, Mark Twain, Octavia E. butler, and John Steinbeck.
