James (Jim) Burd Brewster is the author of the Officer Jack, Uncle Rocky, Fireman, and EMT Morales picture book series, which are a part of the Glad To Do It! series. He was raised in Albany, NY, learned to sail on Lake Champlain, navigated a Polar Icebreaker in the US Coast Guard, and married Katie Spivey from Wilmington, NC. They lived in Baltimore, MD when Jim first told Ben and Luke the Uncle Rocky, Fireman stories. The family grew and settled in Pomfret, MD outside of Washington, DC. His writing career began when Sam, their last child, left for college and Jim and Katie took a creative writing class as “Empty-Nesters.” Professor Wayne Karlin’s class gave them the desire to write down the Uncle Rocky, Fireman stories, Christina Allen’s advice gave them the confidence to publish them, and Yvonne Medley’s Life Journey’s Writers Club gave him the technical knowledge to do it. Ben is now a Marine, married, and father of 5. Ben reads Uncle Rocky stories to his children. Luke is an Apple employee. His response when he first saw the illustrations was, “That’s exactly how I always envisioned it when I heard the stories.”
