Hello, I'm Hayley, a passionate writer who found solace in words after being diagnosed with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) at the age of 23. My writing journey began with '101 Tips for Coping with ME,' a book I penned just six months after my diagnosis, during a time when my symptoms were milder. This book is designed to support newly diagnosed individuals and those with mild symptoms, offering practical advice and guidance based on my experiences. Despite the progressive nature of my condition, I've channeled my love for writing into creating resources that can help others navigating similar challenges. I am now 36 and my illness has progressed from mild to moderate to severe. Living with ME has confined me to my home from the start, where I now spend 90% of my time bed-bound and rely on a wheelchair for an handful of outings a year, namely hospital appointments. My husband is my devoted full-time caregiver, supporting me through my health journey. My days revolve around a complex medication regimen, including round-the-clock morphine, as my body copes with multiple organ failures, namely failing bladder function, and other issues connected to the dysfunction of the Vagus nerve. My bladder functions at around 20% now and i have been self catheterising for 9 years, once it shuts down completely i will be fitted with a Supra-pubic catheter. I have Gastroparesis, essentially failure of the stomach muscles. Over the past 18 months i have had increasing issues with Dysphagia (difficulty swallowing) where the muscles in my throat are also beginning to be affected. I often choke on food and experience Nasal regurgitation. In June 2022 after a series of 7-10 day episodes of delirium, constant vomiting and diarrhoea i was told on my first hospital admission that my bowels are now malfunctioning, along with further stomach complications causing the D&V, and the Delirium i experience is related to the brain. Giving back to the ME community is close to my heart. Hence, 25% of all royalties from my book are donated to Invest in ME Research for biomedical studies and raising awareness about this debilitating illness. My aspiration is for my books to make a positive difference in people's lives. If they can offer comfort or guidance to even just one person, I consider my mission fulfilled. Sending blessings to everyone facing similar challenges!" Love Hayley x
