My name is Dr. Geri Lynn Utter, PsyD. I am a Clinical Psychologist who specializes in working with individuals who struggle with drug addiction and severe mental illness. My view of addiction was formed by witnessing its effects on real people long before I cracked open a book on the subject. The familial and personal challenges that I was confronted with during my youth helped me become a clinician with rare, real-world insight into addiction. My motivation to write and publish Mainlining Philly: Survival, Hope and Resisting Drug Addiction came from my desire to share my story and instill hope. The book is based largely on experiences and challenges that I faced in life due to my parents struggles with drug and alcohol addiction. However, I also offer clinical education through my personal story and that of my parents. I am also working on an educational documentary about drug addiction and underlying psychiatric illness in an effort to de-stigmatize these disorders by spreading awareness and education. I currently reside in a Philadelphia suburb with my husband, Greg, and two children Natalee and Gregory.
