Gary Paul Bryant
For years, Gary has quietly been making his way into the world of fiction writing. His recent work includes The Bitter Climb, The President is Missing and Five Dolls. In The Phone and Other Short Stories, we encounter a more in-depth exploration of his humor and zany imagination, previously only hinted at in his musical body of work. Claimed to be not so dissimilar from the work of Tom Robbins, when Gary's social commentary isn't being portrayed in some thinly disguised literary game, his writing is just downright entertaining.
His first short fiction, The First Ride: The Real Story of Santa Claus was published in 1992 and is currently being released as a special 25-year anniversary paperback edition. Comic and whimsical is his tone, this stocking stuffer is told through the eyes of Max Pepin's grandson, this charming story is set amid the snow drifts of Max's farm in Griswold Connecticut. Bryant's Twain-like humor is a refreshing twist to an intricately evolved creative body of work.
