Franz Nicolay is a musician and writer who lives in New York. In addition to records under his own name, he was a member of the bands the Hold Steady, the World/Inferno Friendship Society, and Guignol; has performed and recorded with many more acts; and was a co-founder of the new-music collective Anti-Social Music. He has taught at Bard College.
His first book "The Humorless Ladies of Border Control: Touring the Punk Underground from Belgrade to Ulaanbaatar" (The New Press) was a New York Times "Season's Best Travel Book."
