Musician and author, Eric Willis is a native of Houma, Louisiana where he studied piano with Howard Nixon whose training helped him win the Tourgee DeBose National Piano Competition at age 17. Eric attended Southern University where he studied piano and percussion under Alvin Batiste. He then served in the 77th U.S. Army Band as a Percussion Section Chief. When he moved to Dallas, in 1990, church musicians asked him why he played so many Jazz chords and Jazz musicians asked why he played so many church chords. This was the moment that he realized, he must be some sort of hybrid. It paid off when Kirk Whalum hired him because he was capable of doing both. Eric also toured with recording artists, Wayman Tisdale and Tom Braxton for over ten years. Eric began writing books as a way of enhancing the lives of others. He brings innovation to market by explaining music business and music theory in concise ways. His books include: Piano Quick, Handle Your Business: Music Publisher and Father to Son (Words of Wisdom Every Son Should Consider). Today, Eric is composing and recording music with his son, Josh, who is building a reputation of his own. Their first recording is entitled: Father to Son.
