Elsie Johnstone is the second of ten children from Lakes Entrance in Victoria, Australia. She was educated in Bairnsdale and Melbourne and after having studied and worked in Special Education for many years became a Wordsmith's Apprentice and graduated to writer and author. She is fortunate to be a mother of four and grandmother of seven who takes great joy in being part of the regular day to day lives of her extended family. She enjoys travel, reading, politics, lawn-bowls, walking and moments of peace and contemplation. (which she rarely gets!) She and her husband Graeme write from their studio in Beaumaris, near Melbourne. Her first book 'Our Little Town, Growing up in Lakes Entrance' is the story of a small fishing village and its development from settlement to the present day as told by several generations of the one family. It is a folk history of the growth of a town. 'Lover Husband Father Monster' is a novel written in two voices. It tells of the disintegration of a marriage that started out in love and hope and ends in hate and despair. Husband Graeme writes the husband's story and Elsie writes the wife's story. How they both view events and happening differ considerably. "Ma's Garden' is a gentle novel about one year in the life of a small country town in Australia at the turn of the twentieth century. Ethel and Christopher Johnstone and their three young boys begin a new life in Trafalgar. She plants a garden and as it grows, so too does their family, town, community and their new business, 'The Trafalgar Times Newspaper'.
