Ella March Chase can't remember a time when she wasn't imagining she was living in a different time, an ocean away from the Illinois town where she was born. In third grade, Ella informed her teacher that she didn't need to learn multiplication tables because she was going to be a famous writer when she grew up. Fascinated by history, she devoured novels by Jean Plaidy and Anya Seton, as well as any biography she could get her hands on. She taught elementary school until her daughter was born. When Ella turned twenty five she received an electric typewriter for her birthday. She gave herself the five years before Kate entered kindergarten to write and publish a novel. Since the beginning of her career, Ella has written under three pen names: Historical novels under the name Ella March Chase, historical romance under the pseudonyms Kimberly Cates and Kimberleigh Caitlin, and contemporary romance as Kim Cates. She has published with Thomas Dunne Books, Crown Books, Berkely Jove, Pocket Books, HQN and Silhouette.
