The author has varied interests, including reading, bowling, golf, and challenging Sudoku puzzles. He has a life-long love of sports, and at the age of 76, finished first in the 200-meter dash at the Empire State Senior-Masters Games. He holds three academic degrees, and whimsically, also graduated from the International Bartender's School in New York City. He worked as a bartender part-time in a private tennis club and full-time one summer in a restaurant. He also worked in construction and as a security guard and has a United States patent (#5,732,952) on a baseball-related bucket game. After retiring from the Yonkers public school system, where he was a teacher and administrator, he started working as a freelance writer. His nonfiction work has appeared in regional newspapers and magazines and national magazines and books, including Inventors' Digest, Elks Magazine, Vibrant Life, Angels on Earth, Chicken Soup for the Soul, and The Saturday Evening Post. His first book, The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Teacher, about his career as an urban educator, is available as an eBook and a print edition at https://www.xlibris.com/en/bookstore/.
