WHAT I DO: I help you reach financial independence. For free. Military personal finance books for servicemembers, veterans, and families. THE MILITARY GUIDE TO FINANCIAL INDEPENDENCE AND RETIREMENT: The book written by military for the military, with all royalties donated to military charities! It shows military veterans and their families how to achieve financial independence and enjoy a successful retirement on their terms. It works for everyone: singles, families, 30-year active-duty retirees, National Guard/Reserve, and even those who've only done one obligation. RAISING YOUR MONEY-SAVVY FAMILY FOR NEXT GENERATION FINANCIAL INDEPENDENCE: Co-authored with my daughter, Carol Pittner! We share our stories about raising kids to learn to manage their money. You'll read what we parents tried, and how it was perceived by Carol-- both as a kid and later as an adult. Kids learn to manage their money by making mistakes, and you can talk through those teachable moments with them. You want them to make their mistakes at home, among family whom they trust and love, before they graduate from school and start their careers. Once you align their financial motives with yours, they're ready to save and invest. ABOUT DOUG: Retired at age 41 after 20 years with the U.S. Navy's submarine force, today Doug Nordman is an enthusiastic surfer, an omnivorous reader, a martial arts student, and a veteran of many chaotic home-improvement projects. He and his retired Navy Reserve spouse raised their daughter in Hawaii. Carol graduated from college on a Navy ROTC scholarship, served on an overseas destroyer and an aircraft carrier, and is now in the Reserves. Their son-in-law is on active duty. GrandDoug and Grandma also have the world's cutest granddaughter. Life is really good and busier than ever as he and his family continue to discover the joys of financial independence. Read more about personal finance and financial independence on Doug's website, The-Military-Guide.com, or join thousands of other early retirees at Early-Retirement.org. Your stories can help write the next edition of the book! Read more about next-generation FI on childFIRE.com and at the Facebook group @NextGenFinance.
