In May 2020, Derek J. Flores, RN CHPN, Best Selling Author, was a featured guest on the internationally broadcast TV Show, 'The Doctors', where he gave expert advice on hospice care. Tragedy and determination brought Derek to write his first book, 'Seven Keys to a Peaceful Passing: A Hospice Nurse's Step-by-Step Guide to Hospice'. It is designed to help both patients and their families navigate the many important decisions everyone needs to make in hospice care. Nurse Derek's latest publication is 'Letters to a Hospice Nurse', a collection of stories written by family members of people who were in hospice care. The soft cover is designed to help the reader process the loss of a loved one. 'Letters to a Hospice Nurse' also has a companion journal, titled 'My Letter' that offers the user a beautiful space to write down their own thoughts and feelings about the life and loss of their loved one. 'My Letter' is a wonderful resource for hospice patients, caregivers, and family members to use as a bereavement aid. In addition to books, Nurse Derek publishes notebooks and journals to aid nurses, patients, and their families. You can find them listed with his other publications on his Amazon Author's Page. Derek Flores is a Pueblo, Colorado Native now living in Northern Colorado. Nursing is a second career for Derek. After graduating from Colorado State University with a bachelor's in Business Administration in 1991, he later attended LCCC in Cheyenne, Wyoming where he earned his nursing degree. Derek lives near the foothills of the Rocky Mountains - where he mountain bike's/runs in the summer and snowboards at his favorite locations in the winter. He is a married to Kirsten and is the parent of three amazing adult daughters, two son-in-laws and one beautiful grand-daughter.
