Deborah Carr is the USA TODAY bestselling author of historical fiction. She was born and lives on the island of Jersey, where she sets many of her novels.

Jersey is only nine by five miles in size, but the islanders have experienced many extraordinary historical events. Jersey and the other Channel Islands were the only places in the British Isles occupied by German forces during World War Two and inspired both An Island at War and Neighbours at War. In the 16th and 17th Centuries, the Channel Islands were described as ‘proportionate to their size, the witch-hunting capital of Atlantic Europe’. This period in the island's history inspired The Witching Hour and her latest novel, Witchbane.

Deborah's stories celebrate courage, resilience and everyday acts of defiance from ordinary people forced to live in extraordinary times.

Deborah enjoys chatting to her readers and keeps them up to date with weekly vlogs on her YouTube Channel @DeborahCarrAuthor
