David Symhoven is a consultant for agile organizational development. Shaped by his scientific education and personal experiences, he combines theory and practice in a unique way. David studied physics with a minor in philosophy at the University of Konstanz and earned his master’s degree in physics from LMU Munich. His passion for complex systems and data-driven, scientific approaches runs as a common thread throughout his career. During his studies, he taught himself app development and worked successfully as a developer for several years. His interest in systemic approaches and passion for technological developments led him to consulting. Today, he works across industries as an organizational developer, combining his scientific background with systems theory to build more resilient organizations. However, his true passion lies in teaching. Inspired by his grandfather, the phrase "Non scholae sed vitae discimus" – "We learn not for school, but for life" – continues to guide him today. It’s no surprise that David has always been active in education, whether tutoring, working as a teaching assistant, speaking at international conferences, founding the 10-day educational program "Software Development in Practice," or in his current role as a lecturer at the University of Konstanz, where he shares his expertise in systemic organizational development with students. In addition to his work as a consultant and lecturer, David is the host of the successful podcast "Wir müssen reden! Dein Podcast für agile Organisationsentwicklung," which ranks among the top 5% of podcasts in the areas of "Agile" and "Organizational Development." In this format, he regularly shares insights into the latest trends and challenges in agile organizational development and leadership. His latest book, "The Illusion of Control," offers an alternative to conventional thinking, showing that what is traditional is not necessarily bad, and what is new is not necessarily good. With depth, nuance, and provocation, it dismantles the nine biggest misconceptions of the modern workplace, equipping readers with valuable tools to navigate the complex corporate jungle. In his free time, David is a passionate athlete and foodie. He enjoys weight training, partner acrobatics, and long walks, as well as savoring good coffee and beautifully prepared meals. He lives in Munich with his wife.
