David Hill achieved an Honours Degree in English and Drama at Hull University, before working on a freelance basis for Birmingham Arts Laboratory, The Pip Simmons Theatre Company, Welfare State International, IOU Theatre, Midlands Arts Centre and Birmingham Repertory Theatre. From 1981-1986 he was Marketing Director at Birmingham Hippodrome. After a further spell as freelance actor, theatre director and drama workshop leader, he became Artistic Director and CEO of Theatre Station Blyth, Northumberland from 1988-1991. From 1992-1994 he worked as Education and Associate Director at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham. In 1995 he returned to Cheltenham to produce and direct The Official Tribute to TV playwright Dennis Potter following the writer's early death from cancer. He worked briefly for the Arts Management Centre and as a freelance theatre director again before setting up ArtReach in 1996. The first major project delivered by ArtReach was the building of Norden Farm Centre for the Arts in Maidenhead. When the Centre opened in 2000 David produced and directed a Gala Opening event hosted by Michael Parkinson. David was a Trustee of Curve (2008-2015, Vice Chair 2011-2015) and of Play to the Crowd, encompassing Theatre Royal Winchester and Hat Fair (2014-2021, Chair 2019-2021).
