In the IPPY-award-winning YA novel, Love at the Center of Grief, Gretchen and Hayden attend the Summerfort Grief Center on the outskirts of Branson, Missouri, to work through the loss of their mothers but fall in love helping each other. Gretchen and Hayden and the cast of characters "nagged" me to keep their story going. So in the sequel, "Beyond the Center of Grief," Gretchen and Hayden use grief diaries to address the issues they have in common with their dads--the dating scene! But did their dads have to choose their counselors from school and the grief center? Can Summerfort deal with this much romance in the midst of grief? I lost my mother at the age of twenty-nine. Grief overwhelmed me, and I discovered writing, "Dear Mom" letters had a profound healing effect. That pain turned into my first book, Eulogies Unspoken: Stories of Worth. The book takes readers on a journey through grief, faith, and the celebration of overcoming adversity. Along the way, I learned so much about my parents. In the end, I learned even more about myself--perhaps angels appear to grant miracles of faith! After my mother's death, my father turned to me for much of his care and support. For years (1999-2017) I lovingly served as his caregiver. My second book, Caring for Dad: With Love and Tomatoes, serves up eighteen years of adventures. PARENTLESS PODCAST: “With Love and Tomatoes.” Check out my two episodes to learn more about my story and others. I continue to use my background in psychology, education, caregiving, and grief in writing to help others. I currently volunteer as a group facilitator at a grief center. I served as an at-risk secondary teacher for twenty-five years. When I'm not in Summerfort writing, I'm listening to audiobooks and helping stray cats.
