We live in an interdependent world where everything is, or soon will be, connected. My life's work is to develop new social innovations so that groups can collaborate across wide-ranging boundaries to tackle their toughest leadership challenges. I like to work at the intersection where ideas meets action. I've been able to do just that through 15 years of service with the globally top-ranked Center for Creative Leadership (CCL), and presently as Organizational Effectiveness Thought Leader at Juniper Networks in Silicon Valley. By integrating deep global experience with applied research expertise, I am uniquely positioned to enable change in complex, multi-stakeholder, cross-boundary environments. As a practitioner, I’m currently stewarding the leadership agenda for Juniper’s senior executives to work interdependently towards achieving the business strategy. Previously, I've served in multi-year expatriate roles in Asia and Europe, advised senior executives in leading Fortune 500 and nonprofit organizations, led cross-functional and multicultural teams, and designed and facilitated leadership interventions in diverse contexts crossing the regions of Africa, Asia, Europe, Middle East, North and South America. As an action researcher, I’ve published in top academic journals and magazines such as Forbes, Fortune, Chief Learning Officer and MIT Sloan Management Review, and have co-authored two books, including CCL’s best-seller, Boundary Spanning Leadership: Six Practices for Solving Problems, Driving Innovation, and Transforming Organizations (McGraw-Hill Professional). Out of these varied experiences, I hold the conviction that the most pressing challenges we face today in business and society span boundaries, yet appreciate first-hand that collaborating across complex boundaries is hard work. I live with my wife and two children in Palo Alto, CA. When I'm not at work, I'm at my best when I'm near the water, spending time with family and friends, and running around with my young son and daughter.
